[Wireline] IPTV for Single Play (1P) Customers
Estimated Reading Time: 6 Minutes[Wireline] IPTV for Single Play (1P) Customers
Overview
As of January 18, 2024, we will be moving to a no deployment status for certain legacy hardware for non-bulk customers. This initiative is to support our ongoing efforts to move customers over to our Ignite Internet and All-IP video services. For more details on this change, please visit the Legacy Hardware and No Deployment Status section.
We are launching a 1P IPTV product to help support migrating current 1P video customers from QAM to IPTV. This should only be offered to existing 1P customers without IPTV as a back pocket offer/product.
In support of our goal to transition All-IP Video delivery by 2025, Shaw has introduced a single play IPTV product, allowing us to transition targeted customers to an All-IP solution where legacy hardware is no longer available. This enables Shaw to remain compliant with Canadian regulations by having a single play video product available in all regions across our entire footprint while simultaneously delivering on our network upgrade initiatives.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a customer use pods to expand their range?
- Pods are only available to Fibre+ Internet subscribers and are not available for single-play IPTV customers.
Can a customer use third-party internet to access apps?
- Third-party internet is not supported. Adding Fibre+ Internet for expanded access can be treated as a possible upsell opportunity.
Can a customer use the internet on the provided Gateway modem?
- The primary provisioning speeds are set to 0.5 Mbps up/down and the SSID is hidden by default, meaning this will not be a very usable connection.
Will bandwidth limitations on the Gateway affect video quality?
- No, it won't. XB Gateway modems have dedicated STB bandwidth separate from the primary bandwidth for the Internet. The STB bandwidth is provisioned at the same levels as standard IPTV setups.
What Internet features will the customer have on the modem?
- Additional features such as the Ignite HomeConnect (Shaw) are also disabled. Customers can upgrade to a Fibre+ Internet plan to access the entire feature set.
Will a customer's channel lineup change?
- Because customers are changing from legacy hardware to Ignite TV hardware they will notice their channels have been re-arranged. They will also notice there are no longer standard definition channels.
Can a customer Self Connect 1P IPTV?
- Regular fees apply for 1P IPTV, but if it's part of the legacy upgrade program, the installation fee is waived.
